Today’s letter – Miley Cyrus has more Jesus in her thumb than One Million Moms have in their whole hive

Spread the love

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger –

The very curious thing about Twitter is that Twitter is a curious thing. Often, you can only hear one side of the conversation, and are left to your own imagination to fill in the details. For example, I was looking through local Tweets – within five miles of my current location – and noticed one from @mileycyrus:

“love is the lords greatest commandment. i understand the bible just fine!!! :)”

I can imagine the message that inspired that because as an openly Gay Christian I have used that same line several times myself. It took just a few moments of research to uncover the back story. “Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus has drawn the ire of the Opponents of Equality for some of her recent Twitter messages to her gay friends:

  • “Everyone deserves to love and be loved and most importantly smile.”
  • “Jesus loves you and your partner and wants you to know how much he cares! That’s like a daddy not loving his lil boy cuz he’s gay and that is wrong and very sad!
  • “Like I said everyone deserves to be happy.”
  • “God’s greatest commandment is to love. And judging is not loving.”
  • “I am a Christian and I love you – gay or not – because you are no different than anyone else! We are all God’s children.”

So the Opponents of Equality are showing their love of Jesus by attacking Miley Cyrus for saying that “everyone deserves to be happy.” That is really vile.

I am writing to you about this, Governor, to show how ethically bankrupt this argument is, in the hope that you will prevent these Opponents of Equality from forming public policy based on their so-called religion, to the determent of the dignity and freedom of every Californian.

Sincerely,
